Larry Nylund of Kansas City, MO, died peacefully early Sept. 7, 2007. Mr. Nylund was born Oct. 25, 1941 in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Center High School in 1960, then attended Baker University, where he graduated with a psychology degree in 1964. He began his career as a counselor for the Neighborhood Youth Corp. in Kansas City, KS. In 1965, he began selling printing for the George D. Barnard Printing in Washington, D.C. and later in St. Louis, MO. He relocated to Kansas City in 1969. Mr. Nylund began his career with Miller Cooper Ink Company in 1971, serving as president for 27 years until his death. He also served on the board of directors of Inland Industries since 1980. Mr. Nylund was a member of the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM). Mr. Nylund is survived by his wife, Debbie Nylund; children Carrie Nylund and Terry Nylund and wife Sara; stepchildren Christy Kimberlin and husband Mark, Michelle Gunther, Lori Burgess, Lisa Burgess, Rick Burgess and wife Jenny. Mr. Nylund’s colleagues have fond memories of him. “Larry was one of the most honest and charismatic people I ever met,” said Bill Curtin, Press Color’s president. “I always said you could take his word to the bank. I’m going to miss him.” “Larry helped me out with the Print Suppliers Group (PSG),” added Dennis Curtin, PSG president and vice president of Press Color. “He talked me through situations and gave me direction. Larry was a second father to me.” “Larry was a great man in the industry,” said Joe Bendowski, president and CEO of Van Son Holland Ink. “He was always a model to me. We’re going to miss him.” Over the years, Mr. Nylund volunteered time and money to several charities, including United Cerebral Palsy and Help Jane Face Autism. His true passion came from coaching sports for children. For more than 35 years, he volunteered coaching time for his own children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and neighborhood children. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held Sunday, Sept. 16 at Club 1000, 1000 Broadway, Kansas City, MO from 1 to 4 p.m. for family and friends to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Autism Society of the Heartland, P.O. Box 860984, Shawnee, KS 66286-0984.
